Things to be aware of:

  • You do not have to reclaim GST
  • If you purchase items for equipment, trips, or rental expenses it will be worth the effort but if all you purchase are things from Girl Guide Stores and groceries the amount may be very small
  • You do not have to file each year but can accumulate expenses over four years
  • Even if you do not anticipate claiming it is a good idea to keep track of GST in case you have a major qualifying expense in the next four years

GST

  • You can reclaim 50% of GST by filing a GST Rebate Claim Form - each province has their own form and a copy is available from most Area offices and Provincial offices ( see sample form 5-4 in the manual)
  • You must have an original receipt which identifies the amount of GST paid and the GST number of the vendor (make sure you run a photocopy for your books)
  • Purchases from Girl Guides of Canada stores are not eligible, but all other GST qualifies
  • Track GST by allocating the amount for each expenditure in the GST column, with the remainder in the expense column
