NEW! Deputy Provincial Treasurer


Are you an enthusiastic accounting professional looking for a new challenge?

Alberta Council is looking for a deputy treasurer to work with the current treasurer to learn the role of provincial treasurer. 2012/13 will be the last year of the current treasurer's term so this is an excellent opportunity to learn the role of Alberta Council treasurer in a supportive environment, with the intention of taking on the role of provincial treasurer in May 2013.

The treasurer:

  • administers the financial affairs of Alberta Council according to the standards developed and approved by council.
  • is a member of Alberta Council, the executive committee and chairs the finance committee.
  • monitors the annual budget and all financial transactions.
  • recommends the investment of funds in consultation with the investment manager.
  • advises the staff administrative manager on financial matters.
  • reports to Alberta Council and is responsible directly to the Provincial Commissioner.
  • is elected annually at the Alberta Council Annual General Meeting and may hold office for up to five consecutive years.

Position commences: May 2012

Qualifications: Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) or equivalent professional accounting experience.
