Website Frequently Asked Questions!
FAQ's
Q. I don’t know how to turn off the popup
blocker in my internet browser.
A. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, click on Tools menu, then click on
Internet Options. Click the privacy tab, then select the Block pop-ups check box
and clear the checkmark to turn off the pop-up blocker. Click Apply, then click
OK.
In Mozilla Firefox, by default, Firefox blocks pop-up windows on web sites.
Go to Tools menu, click on Options, click on
Content tab; go to "block popup windows" and deselect this
option (clear the checkmark) to disable the popup blocker altogether.
Q. What are Pop-ups?
A. Popup windows, or popups, are windows that appear automatically unless
they are blocked by your browser. They vary in size but usually don't cover the
whole screen.
Q. I don’t know what a PDF file or Adobe
Acrobat are. Why don’t you have your publications available in a different
format?
A. The PDF format has become the standard format for sharing documents.
This is the case for many reasons. PDF was created so that different
configurations on different systems wouldn’t alter the appearance of
documents, which can become distorted or misaligned in word processor documents.
It is also the most universal file format available for such purposes. Adobe
supports virtually ALL platforms, including all variations of Windows (95, 98,
2000, ME, and even Windows 3.1), Macintosh systems, Linux and Unix.
Finally, the program to open, view and print PDF documents is a free download
from www.adobe.com. Because the
PDF format is widely used on the internet (even The
Government of Canada uses it for all forms available on their Web site), it's useful to have for many reasons beyond accessing GGC
forms to have this free program.

Q. I am having problems opening/viewing/printing PDF files, even though I
have Acrobat Reader installed on my computer. What should I do?
A. If you are getting error messages while attempting to open one of our
files, our first suggestion is that you download the most recent version of
Acrobat Reader. Most of them were created with the latest version of Adobe
Acrobat, which sometimes causes conflicts with older versions of the reader.
If you click on the link to a PDF file and nothing happens or you have
difficulties opening it, you can try saving it to your computer first and then
opening it up from the Reader program. To do this on a PC, right-click on the
hyperlinked .pdf file name and select Save Target As (Save Link As in Netscape).
Save the file in the directory of your choice, then access it with your Reader.
To do this on a Mac, Click and hold down the mouse on the link to a PDF file;
then choose Download Link To Disk from the pop-up menu. In the Save As dialog
box, select a location on your hard disk; then click Save.
If your problem continues or if you can’t find a solution to it here, the best
place to get help with Acrobat Reader problems is Adobe’s
online help page.
